Lucas Oggier. That's It ep

In the immortal words of Forest Gump, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know which one you’re gonna get!’ The same could be said for Convert Recordings, but if there is one constant, it’s quality.

This time, we’ve gone all French! Well, not entirely, as our storming new release is from newcomer Lucas Oggier, born of French-speaking Switzerland. He was raised in Lausanne – the capital of Swiss partying and that certainly rubbed off on him.

At the age of 16, Lucas began his DJ/producer career and now at only 18-years-old he brings Convert his first release ‘That’s It’ – a tough, anthemic euro prog number with a certain French ‘je ne sais quoi’ about it.

Another fascinating version comes from fellow Convert artist Syzthaime – who is 100% French. This mix is unashamedly-larger-than-life, progressive French disco-beat electro, and we love every note of it!

Fellow Frenchman, JulB – a Convert first-timer also brings us his interpretation which is more ‘techno’ and ‘techy’ with more swing to the rhythm. Both of these remixes were the winners of a remix competition launched by Oggier earlier this year, proving his rising popularity on the continent.

All three mixes work their own individual magic and truly deserve their places on the release. All three will have their own takers at clubs, festivals and house parties in the UK and across the globe. Perhaps Lucas Oggier’s proximity to the Hadron Collider has something to do with his organic, out-of-this-world sound… we will never know!

If you like europen sytle progressive it will be hard not to like this!

Syzthaime. Cryztaline ep

Continuing converts recent deeper progressive releases is a great double tracker from "Syzthaime"

Syzthaime (Kévin Syz Descourty) is young talented producer from "Tours " in France.

He is relatively new to the production scene but with his unique blend of deep transient basslines, electronic overtones and some familiar progressive elements he is sure to capture the eye of many established within in the scene.

The first of the double tracker is titled "Cryztaline" which a deeper subtle groove driven track with very european feel about. It drives along with a dutch esq sounding bassline whilst overlaid with some abstract piano / synth elements. Its very hypnotic and pulls you into the sound from start to finish.

The second track is titled "Gyztyle" and is much more progressive in terms of atmosphere, chord structure and darker synth / bassline elements. Its less hypnotic than "Cryztaline" with a more clubbed up groove and classic arpeggiated synth lines.

The White Dwarf. Cosmic Collision (inc Daniel Wanrooy remix)

Convert Recordings release schedule for march features an excellent transient / progressive work out from
"The White Dwarf".

The White Dwarf (Ercan Ates) is a DJ/producer from Turkey who has been gradually climbing the club circuit since 07. His previous releases have included ''Wobbler - Mannequins In Lingerie'' on Elektrax which received positive reactions across the trance / progressive scene.

His sound uniquely blends deep transient elements with dirty progressive basslines which really hypnotize you whilst maintaining a punchy 4/4 groove. If you're a fan of Global Underground, Renaissance and european progressive house this should should be one for your box, create or play list.

The release also includes an excellent remix from dutch DJ / producer Daniel Wanrooy.
Many many people are already aware of Daniel's quality work and this remix doesn't disappoint.
The mix features a deeper edged techno groove with arpeggiated over tones, mood driven builds which would easily work within a progressive / trance set.

Convert Recordings new release scheduled for Feb.

Shango. Plant Food Ep

Convert Recordings re-activates its release schedule for 2010 with a cracking Ep from Rob Green's "SHANGO".

The "Plant Food Ep" uniquely covers a spectrum of influences including House , Progressive, Acid , Electro and Techno. There's three tracks to choose from, all holding their own truly individual attributes...

First on the platter is "Trip To Ikea" which unlike the name suggests is not about taking hallucinogenic
drugs and dreaming of Swedish sofa beds. Rather, its a groove driven electro prog number with a tongue-and-cheek vibe and a sound reminiscent of progressive champions "Fluke". Think deep-spoken filtered vocals with a rolling electro groove.

Next up is the punchy, minimal techy monster "Fonk It Up" which features trumpet and guitar samples from house music artist "Dee Tox". The production is in a similar vain to "Trip To Ikea", only more percussive, electronic, funkier and very dynamic in its builds and drops.

Finally, the tough, bounding "The Hard Stuff" is a techno acid builder, which borrows the old 303 sound and morphs it into a truly 21st century production with a huge, explosive main break.

Convert Recordings new release scheduled for Dec.

Blue Amazon . Unite

Presenting the last commercial release for 2009 on the Convert platter is the latest edition from Blue Amazon.

Unite is a track which as been doing the rounds amongst a certain amount of taste maker DJs within the last month and as already been labeled as BA's best progressive release of recent.

The track features a positive vocal message "People Unite" recorded in a tastefully way and fit for the underground club circuit as well as the more electro based floors.

There's two mixes to choose from with the original mix following a more transient path with rising key changes , moody pads , deep bassline and backed up with harder techno stabs.

The alternative mix is more hypnotic based around a groove, etherizing the techno elements and using filter sweeps to effect.

Blue Amazon . Homage

After a short break Convert returns with a new release from Blue Amazon.

This new release appropriately titled "Homage" pays respect to classic house and acid house grooves.
The release comprises of two mixes which uniquely covers area's of classic house and more energy driven progressive / acid .

The first mix "Homage (to house) " is a smooth funky bassline driven work out with classic house piano stabs, acid lines , reverse vocals and moody strings. The whole feel of the track is deeper than the usual
BA sound but contains elements of their original productions and is workable on the floors and more laid back sets.

Mix two "Homage (to Acid)" is more of what you expect from Blue Amazon with a rolling acid bassline, chopped up stabs, dynamic drops, vocal fx's and old school drum programming. This mix is defiantly the more energetic of the two and is workable amongst progressive house sets to faster paced house.

Due out on all MP3 stores from Mid Oct.

Convert Recordings new release scheduled for July.

Blue Amazon & Shango. Jackpot Reunion Ep

Back in 1995 a management company called 7pm decided to start a new record label titled "Jackpot Records". They were already established by managing artists such as Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, BT, Tom Fredericks and establishing their own record label was the next step.

The idea behind the label was to release music of their own taste and to add to the growing progressive house movement which was already being championed by DJ's like Sasha.

Thoughout the course of the label new artists such as Blue Amazon, Danny Howells, Shango, The Bubble, Tenth Chapter, Fifty Fifty, Chakra and Amethyst were introduced. The label also hosted established remix names such as Cal Cox, Paul Van Dyk, John Digweed, Evolution to mention a few.

This new Ep on convert see's two of the consistent Jackpot artists collaborate on a Jackpot Reunion project.

The first track "Set Me Free" is joint studio recording between Blue Amazon & Shango and is very progressive in the true sense of the style. Featuring a dark bassline with synth stabs, sweeping vocal samples, arpeggiated synth lines and varying breaks downs which re build to new groove elements.

Track two is a solo recording from Shango which is a lot more transient than "Set Me Free".
The track builds around a electro style bassline with moody sweeping pads and a dreamy synth hook.
It is very much more European than british sounding and leaves you with a Berlin esq image.

Finally the third track is from Blue Amazon tiled "AWFD" being an acronym for "Another Winner For Dinner" which was part of the Jackpot records slogan. AWFD is the most electronic sounding of the three with a deep rolling techno bassline, vocoder style vocal hits, acidic bleepy riffs and old school house drum programming.

Blue Amazon . Nu Nu

Continuing from the current release of Mal Black is a new recording from Blue Amazon including a hot remix from Global Underground's Trafik.

Nu Nu original takes on board elements from the original Blue Amazon sound including filtered vocal samples, strings lines, arpeggiated acid riffs and a groove driven base line.

The track crosses between the area's of progressive house and breaks whilst maintaining its own identity.

Trafik remix is a much darker sounding affair combining distorted percussion, a dark wobble bassline
and an intensity unique to Trafik's own productions.

The Blue Amazon's Electric dub strips the original mix down to core elements, switches bassline to a more four four dynamic approach, filtered guitar break, filtered synth lines and energy driven throughout.

Convert Recordings back is on line

After a lengthy break on the circuit Convert Recordings in back online and scheduling new releases.

Since Convert was last releasing music there's been quite a few changes in the way music is promoted , released and predominately digital formats have taken over. Taking this on board Convert will be mainly releasing music digitally through the current download stores whilst some limited vinyl releases will be also be available on a demand basis.

The first release scheduled for release in March welcomes the return of Mal Black.
Mal black is no stranger to Convert or the club circuit after enjoying a number of releases on the label,
Duty Free , Sog Records and Electrade to name a few. He's hit the play lists of an array of Dj's, radio and featured on a number of key compilation albums.

The new release is a double header titled "Call It & Connect"
. "Call It" is every thing that you would expect from a Mal Back release comprising of a dynamic energy fuelled work out with disco esq. synth lines breaking and building in anticipation.

Equally as good "Connect" take's on board a more techy approach with a deeper groove whilst maintaining
the chunky weighted beats as "Call It".
